I received an invite from a friend to diaspora, but when I attempt to register it tells me either than email has already been taken and person cannot be blank, or that person can’t be blank, aspects is invalid, aspects is invalid.

No need to accept or use those old invitations. Just go to a diaspora pod such as http://social.mathaba.net and sign up. Invitations are no longer required for Diaspora.

Same here! It says “Person can’t be left blank, Aspects can’t be left blank, Aspects is invalid.”
