I am a supporter and forgot my password; reset requests are rejected

Asked by

Hey, I donated in spring 2010 because I found the Diaspora vision compelling. Shortly before Christmas I received an invitation to try the beta, which I did. Since Diaspora didn’t yet appear to be of much use then (I' not blaming anyone; I’m a software engineer and know what the D team is up to) I hadn’t come back until now.

The thing is: I cannot sign in anymore since I forgot the login I chose. When I try the “Forgot your password?” option at https://joindiaspora.com/users/sign_in, filling in my supporter’s email address, I get the screen “The change you wanted was rejected.”.

I tried signing up for another invite, however, after confirming it I am taken to a screen saying “Thank for your interest in Diaspora. We will send you a Diaspora invite as soon as we reach beta!”

How can I sign in or set up a new account? I would be surprised if I should not have the chance of continuing to try out Diaspora right now. As someone who sponsored the initial bid for development I feel at a loss. (As an aside: news mailings about progress have been discontinued a long time ago, blog news postings are more than vague, and I am beginning to ask myself where those 200 grand have gone.)

I would be happy if the original developers could be more open and upfront about how and where things are going, especially towards supporters. And, of course, I would like to sign in.

Thanks, M.

Sorry about it, we understand your frustration and we should have done much better at communication. But we are working on fixing it, you should see more updates on the blog and front page in the coming days. Right now there are many public pods which does not need an invitation, they all run more of less the same software (some small changes they may introduce or they may take a few days to update the code). A list of all these sites are given at http://podupti.me You may pick any one and start using diaspora straight away. I have had good experience with diasp.org and poddery.com

Also see diasporial for current updates. It is maintained by Kevin Kleinman and he is going to take charge of blog updates too. Thanks for your support and patience, we are all in it together.
